well thats what happens when coalition gov comes to power. i'm sure Anni must done everything to squeeze the best line up. eventhough i personally did not agree with most of the choices. We all voted for change surely. Likely I threw my support behind the coalition for a change-obligation. if i had a choice, would not vote for the coalition...I had my issues… in my view forming a coalition government is actually less democratic, as the balance of power is inevitably held by the small parties who can exchange their support for compromise from the main group within the coalition. I will explain, for eg. Buruma Qasim. He won 15.32 percent of the vote and now he is holding the giant share of the government. And Hassan Saeed, who threw his support unconditionally but fought for a cabinet post to his ally and Guess what they had to compromise. So these people with lil support are able to impose their policies by a process of “political blackmail” Just like Yameens deal with DRP and we so openly and vocally critisized. I don’t find any difference in here? Do you?

Now what about MDP Manifesto? Since it’s a coalition, MDP manifesto become kind of irrelevant and has become some extent to unrealistic as to my knowledge. Why so? cas all the major decisions and some political agreements are made after the election(within the last few weeks), in secret behind closed doors negotiated from which we were excluded. So is it going to be MDP manifesto or Hassans/Qasims or just blank promises… food for thought? I certainly believe that neither Hassan nor Qasim will be able to deliver their particular manifesto promises, unlike in a single-party government which certainly undermines the accountability of the whole government?

As I lighten up from history it has clearly proven that coalition governments are very unstable and fragile; collapsing and reforming at frequent intervals. If there to be mid term election, its said that the cabinet posts are likely to change(baring in mind if any parties pulls out from the coalition before election, most likely to happen) and if so I don’t think none of ministers will be in their posts long enough to get the grips to meet its demands. Not giving enough space and time for major reforms. Again keeping mind about the mid term election I don’t think none of the coalition parties would want to be bad named. And they will not certainly risk because they will be looking for the populist advantage. not wanting them to take any risky decisions which might be unpopular in the short term but good in long run. Means there won’t be any long term plan as a government?

1- you gotta explain the reasons
2- is there a veto in parliarment?
3- why not doctors shaheed and jameel?

Anni only came to power with the backing of these guys. with their votes. with the jumhooree and dr saeed's teams.

but i agree with you, the posts should not go unchallenged.

Somewhere down the road to the Other Maldives, we have been misled. Lets get a few facts right before all this nonsense about Multi Party elections convince us that we did have one just like the Americans were conviced by CNN that Saddam had nuclear weapons.

1 - We had a Multi Candidate Election, not Multi Party. Our Consitution is prepared for a Presidential system, hence there is not such thing as a Multi Party Elections. A party or a number of parties can back one individual, but once elected HE and not the PARTY or PARTIES hold the Excutive position. Take US which follows something close to what we are trying to do. The President is free to choose his Cabinet across Party line and does so. However Anni maybe holding back till Parliamentary Elections to .......

2 - There is absolutely nothing any of the Alliance Party can do whatever Anni's decision is. The public voted for him, of course the Alliance convicned a lot of them to vote for him.

3 - We, the public have to think and think deep when voting for the Parliament. If MDP does not get the bare majority they need to run the Government, then Anni will be in a real position to be black mailed. If he gets enough to get a simple majority, then he will be in a real position to clean up his office really well.

4 - Giving 2/3 majority is like inviting Maumoon back to office. A simple majority will do.

So until the Parlaimentary elections, what we see is just the trailer.
